"Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." — Matthew 28:19
Holy Baptism
Baptism is the sacrament by which we are made members of Christ, children of God and inheritors of the kingdom of heaven. In it we are washed from sin, born again of water and the Spirit, and grafted into the Church — the body of Christ. Anglicans baptize both infants (brought by parents and godparents who promise to raise them in the faith) and adults (on their own confession of faith, after a course of instruction).
Baptisms at St. Peter’s take place during the Sunday service so that the whole congregation can welcome the newly baptized and renew our own baptismal vows. Speak to the vicar to begin preparation.
Confirmation
In confirmation, baptized Christians confirm for themselves the promises made at baptism — usually as teenagers or adults — and the Bishop lays hands on each candidate, praying for the strengthening of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation completes full membership of the Anglican Church and admits the candidate to Holy Communion.
Confirmation classes run ahead of each episcopal visit. Those baptized and confirmed in other churches may be formally received into the Anglican Communion by the Bishop.
