Karibu — welcome to St. Peter’s!
We are delighted that you are considering worshipping with us. Whether you are new to the area, new to the Anglican Church, or simply curious about church, you are welcome — come as you are.
What is a Sunday Service Like?
Our services follow the Anglican liturgy from Our Modern Services — a printed order of worship that the whole congregation shares. A typical service includes:
- Preparation — an opening hymn, greeting and the Collect for Purity, then confession and absolution.
- The Ministry of the Word — the appointed lectionary readings (Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle and Gospel), the sermon, and the Nicene Creed.
- The Prayers — intercessions for the Church, the nation and the world, followed by the peace.
- The Holy Communion — on communion Sundays, the bread and wine are consecrated and shared. Baptized Christians from other churches are welcome at the Lord’s table; if you are not baptized or prefer not to receive, come forward with arms crossed for a blessing.
Services are lively but ordered — expect hymns and choruses (from Nyimbo Standard and English hymn books), Bible readings read by members, and a sermon rooted in Scripture. The English service runs 7:30 – 9:00 am and the main family service (Kiswahili, with some English) 9:30 – 11:30 am.
Common Questions
- What should I wear? Most members dress smart or business-casual, but come as you are comfortable — you will not be turned away.
- What about my children? Children are loved and welcome. Sunday School classes run during the 9:30 service, led by trained teachers, and children rejoin their parents for the blessing.
- Will I be asked to give money? No. Tithes and offerings are given by our members as worship — visitors are our guests and under no obligation.
- Can I take Communion? All baptized, communicant Christians are welcome to receive. If unsure, speak to an usher or the vicar — or simply come forward for a blessing.
- How do I become a member? Come for worship, join a fellowship group (MU, KAMA, KAYO, Ladies’ Guild, Brigade), and let the vicar know — for adults, membership is completed through baptism or confirmation by the Bishop.
Introduce yourself to an usher or warden after service — we would love to meet you and pray with you.
